Next week I have my first interview with a company that does online forensics. It's an entry-level position as an analyst.

Only glitch is that I have very little experience technically aside from marital infidelities and chat-room lurking and exposing.

I would love this job and to learn this field.

Please give me any pointers you have that may help me get this job!

Thanks!

Hello and welcome to Forensic Focus!

It's almost impossible to give advice about an interview for a position with a company with which you're unfamiliar. However, that having been said, I'll add the following…

If you don't yet have the technical experience which you think is necessary be honest about it but make it clear that you're keen to learn. In my opinion the key to doing "good forensics" has nothing to do with technical skills, it's simply personal integrity (which covers a lot of things, honesty and dedication to doing a good job amongst them). Anyone with a modicum of intelligence and commitment can be taught the technical skills necessary to carry out an investigation. Teaching the personal qualities required to prevent the results of that investigation from being questioned is, I would suggest, more problematic.

In addition, make sure that you're aware of the major issues involved in any investigation (maintaining evidential integrity for example) and I'm sure you'll do fine. Best of luck!

Jamie
