Has anyone seen any types of charts or documents on the estimates for imaging or copying data over the different mediums. For instance, imaging a 40GB drive over USB 2.0 will take X number of hours.

I guess I am looking for a rule of thumb for imaging times of drives, meaning how long per drive size (per GB).

Thanks,

I am going to say no. However there have been numerous threads on the topic. There are just so many variables that the chart would have to be huge.

For example THIS thread includes a discussion on how compression effects capture speed.

There was another comparing Tableau and WiebeTech.

Another looking at eSATA vs. Firewire.

Greetings,

I did some research on this topic which supports Bithead's conclusion. You can find the writeup and the tables here - https://integriography.wordpress.com/ .

The reported variation was with a single type of drive, a single write blocker, and the same write blocker and drive interfaces for all tests. I only varied imaging tools and compression. If I started exploring the options for each one of those characteristics, the resulting times would be all over the place.
