You can use
Autopsy (FORENSIC ANALYSIS OF AN ANDROID LOGICAL IMAGE WITH AUTOPSY http//www.weare4n6.com/forensic-analysis-of-an-android-logical-image-with-autopsy/ )

Paladin

Remember PALADIN PRO that supported eMMC and nvRAM and cost $99.00? Those features are now included PALADIN 7

Belcasoft (trial version)

AXIOM (trial version)

Usually the device should be rooted before data recovery

1)Use solutions from forum.xda-developers.com for rooting your device
2)Use DD over netcat for create a memory dump of your device
3)Use some tools for recovering data (SMS, images, etc.) from the dump

I find on google that MobiKin Doctor for Android is powerful and popular on data recovery for Android.
Not only works on the android data recovery but also on sd card data recovery. See restore deleted contacts on android

$99 for single-phone license of MOBILedit Forensic Express. recovers deleted data (android should be rooted), advanced applications analysis and more.

I decided to see if I could get some of the data back using Disk Drill
This is a great tool with a wide range of features. Simple to use but powerful. Responsive customer support gives confidence. One of the biggest advantages of this app for me is that it works with Mac and Android bunch. Had some questions regarding connecting Galaxy (it is not as easy as with PC, you know), but support team replied fast.

Yes, you are right. There are so many such Android data recovery tools online. They all say that they can help us recover deleted or lost sms, images, etc from Android phone. But most are not free, as you know.
