concatanated texts

Sorry guys , this was covered years ago, and, in the smartphone age we don't come across it as much.
On certain reports ( usually dealing with older Samsung phones) one column will read "check in device"
when checked its a text over 160 characters.
My query, If the handset has managed to join the texts how come it doesn't offer it up into a report?
We do see quite a few of these as we deal with such large numbers of handsets, it would be nice to be able to explain succinctly ( unlike the query 😯 ) a decent explanation.
