Diplomas Mobile Telephone Evidence (MTEdipl)

The Diplomas provide individuals with a path to recognition for demonstrating development of students knowledge, skill and experience for those involved in mobile telephone examination and evidence or for anyone interested in this field of distinction.

Empowering students to have confidence in themselves, their knowledge and skills, is one feature in the Diploma modules. Another feature is the Diplomas can have value-added benefits for employers. Each Diploma carries a requirement that the student MUST present as part of their assignment a tested practice and procedure plan and be able to offer a possible solution to potential employers for practices and procedures for dealing with mobile phone evidence along with other enhancement value-added benefits, such as market potentials for future planning options that may benefit an employer.

An important objective behind this series of Diplomas is to assist students gain an appreciable grounding, from start to finish, of dealing with mobile telephone evidence.

Employers want new recruits to be able to function effectively at work as soon as is practicable to do so. The student mindset needed for these Diplomas is one that keeps the employer's objective in mind. If an employer believes too much time will be needed to “helicopter-mentor” (cradle-guiding) a potential new recruit then that can be interpreted by the employer that the recruit could require a high number of personnel hours and expenditure (high maintenance) to train in the company policy and the work related requirements. These Diplomas, therefore, help the student focus, strengthening their approach to work related requirements so that when a student goes to interviews s/he arrives with a researched plan and demonstrable competency.

For those already in the workplace, these Diplomas allow the student to acquire new information, improve skills, brush-up on existing skills and to identifying under-achieving areas in his/her work.

Essentially these Diplomas do not spoon-feed students but make students do the work with the help of identified materials, in addition to guidance from experienced practitioners, experts and academic works. Students will then seek to intellectualise their research and study and display the knowledge-findings recorded into a Diploma report.

Yes there will be some tuition via materials provided. Illustrative of tuition materials are identified text books or generated material for Diplomas etc. For instance

1) Diploma for Foundation and Research Skills
A powerpoint presentation providing guidance on these subjects to assist the student to demonstrate how s/he would be a source of proactive, value-added benefit to an employer

- The importance to the student's required knowledge
- Getting the student to produce a practice and procedure plan that can be put before the employer (eg at interview) as to how these particular skills can benefit the business

2) Diploma for Mobile Evidence QA and Evidence Handling
Samples from an approved manual are available to push the student to go and research best practice QA and evidence handling etc, and to demonstrate the findings through the Diploma Report

3) Diploma for SIM and USIM Technology Examination
4) Diploma for MS and UE Technology Examination
A methodology for (U)SIM Card and Mobile Phone Examination Form. This is provided in order that a student can test it to see if it is workable and challenge how to improve it, produce one of his/her own Form, to be included with the Diploma report

……….and so on

The above are just examples of some of the unit information in four of the Diplomas.

To be clear though the Diplomas are not product specific and in some instances the Diplomas will challenge the student to come up with innovative ways, for instance, to examine a handset where the only software available is download from the handset manufacturer. The Diplomas should not be undertaken by anyone if positive work effort and determination is not his/her focus. The Diplomas are though for those who wish to be pushed to be the best, be self reliant and be a self-starter.

I am discussing (at the moment) where the student forum discussion is going to be held. The forum will be more for students to discuss matters but some tutors will hover in the background for some difficult issues only.

This looks very good.

I presume this deals mostly with GSM mobile telephones.

I think for the US, if she becomes a target market, this might require some minor adjustments both in content of the training and wording in the document.

Hi jhup thanks for your feed back.

The Diplomas are both GSM, WCDMA and CDMA but maybe I presumed that it would be given to be understood this would be so by the references SIM (2G) and USIM (3G) and ME (2G) and UE (3G). I put the handsets separately so that if a student wanted to go for a CDMA handset with or without RUIM that would be possible. I also avoided using BTS (2G), Node B (3G) or CDMA Base Station and went for Cell Site to encompass the common mobile phone technologies.

I would of course be most interested to receive any help and learn what are the content and wording points in the Diploma that are incompatible with the US?

Thanks

(ps I didn't mention the costs in GBP because I assume you are referring to technical content.)

As a further sign of our determination to have quality underpinning the Diplomas the Quality Council will monitor, in parallel, the Diplomas over the first two years of the distance learning/self study programme to ensure we deliver what we say we are to deliver.
