LG K9 edl mode - only with mainboard and battery possible?

New Member

Hi everyone,

I've just read some comments about the LG K9 EDL mode.
I'm quite new to the EDL by test points stuff.

Question: I've got a solo mainboard LG K9 for testing issues. Is there a way to get into EDL with only the mainboard, cable and a battery? Which test point do I have to short? I've found the picture link of the mainboard here in the forum.

When I "insert" the battery (bring it to the connectors) while cable is connected to pc and view the device manager nothing happens. With a complete device of LG K9 right after connecting the cable the device is powering on with vibration. The solo mainboard isn't. Do I miss something essential?
Am I totally wrong about that or is there a way to try it that way?

Thank you in advance!

EDL mode can usually be achieved even without a battery connected. If the device starts to vibrate, it's most likely starting to boot up and the testpoint is not active. You're either using the wrong test point or have your issue elsewhere.

Usually, you need to disconnect the battery and cable, connect the testpoint, and connect the cable while keeping the testpoint active.

It's also possible that this device doesn't have a direct testpoint to get EDL mode. In this case you can use eMMC fault way, essentially blocking communication with memory chip during boot, forcing EDL mode, like here https://www.forensicfocus.com/forums/mobile-forensics/lg-k9-lm-x210emw-how-to-enter-edl-mode/

Hi arcaine2,

thanks for your reply! And the forum link. This one I've found so I got the idea of a solo mainboard.

But I'm wondering why the solo mainboard isn't vibrating by powering on - compared to the complete device which is vibrating. So I guess the "vibrating module" is within the cover which isn't available for the solo mainboard of course. 🙂 But beside that: it won't show in the device manager as well. So I guess the mainboard for itself doesn't start/work.

But I will keep testing and if there are news I will update this post here.
