Hi,

I just wanted to know, is it possible to recover lost data such as deleted text messages or WhatsApp messages from iPhone 7 with a passcode.  What if this was not backed via icloud.  Is there any way this can be done?

Thanks

That should be possible, as long as the SQLite databases still hold the deleted messages and you are able to back them up from the phone without triggering the vacuum functionality and, thereby, compacting the databases and overwriting the deleted messages. Do you have access to any forensic tools?

If the passcode is not known, I don't think you can do any kind of acquisition on your own.

Full filesystem acquisition is possible even without knowing the passcode, but it can be done only in-lab. The full filesystem dump will contain the WhatsApp database files, then you can analyze those with your favourite forensic software.

If it is important, feel free to contact me!

So For this Particular Device you can take advantage of the Checkm8 vulnerability that effects iPhone 4 To iPhone X. This is a hardware vulnerability and is unpatchable. You can jailbreak the phone even if the phone is passcode protected using CheckRa1n. CheckRa1n Currently Support all iOS versions upto 13.5.

Once you have jailbroken your device you can use forensic software to pull a "Physical FileSystem" image of the phone - that will contain Whatsapp messages and text messages. You can of course manually parse SQL's databases at your own preference.

Once the device is rebooted, the device will no longer be jailbroken. you will need to repeat the process to regain root access.

Hope this helps.

Yes, there's a decent chance—at least for WhatsApp messages. Since you know the iPhone's passcode, depending on the tools at your disposal, there might be several means of performing the task.

You have to extract the full file system from the iPhone using your preferred procedure. For the task here, I recommend you use an acquisition function based on checkm8.

See Belkasoft's checkm8 implementation. iPhone 7 is one of those devices vulnerable to checkm8.

In general, you can use Belkasoft to extract and analyze WhatsApp data, which might contain the deleted messages you seek.

Good luck.

From what I read the OP, I understand that the passcode is not known, but please correct me if I'm wrong 🙂

You are wrong. The OP wrote "...from iPhone with a passcode"—and this implies that the passcode is known.

I think you read his post as "…without a passcode" for some reason. 😆

@em-belkasoft: no, I've read exactly as it was written, I think the passcode is not known, just the poster is not native English 🙂

@mark_eskridge

hi there

thank you. I know the phones passcode but I have been told that once phone is updated the new software overrides all. I don’t have access to any Forensic tools. But the messages in question are from last year and mobile number with WhatsApp has not changed.
