on some mobile phones,

Whatsapp warns us to set up date-time settings, and then it allows us to see conversations on seized phones.

and the also sometimes it gives message that we should update the latest version. But as these phones are seized phones and We should not alow them to get connected to internet to update the Whatsapp version..

Do you have any idea about it?

I haven't encountered it telling me I must update, but date and time wise I've noted it and adjusted it so the messages could be viewed.

Hello,

in the case WhatsApp should be updatet, I download the newest apk from the internet at the PC.
I use the webseite https://de.uptodown.com/android.

After downloading, you have to transfer the apk to the Mobilephone.
Now you need to activate "install unknown sources" in the android menu.

After activation you can install the apk.

Greetings,

Sorry I am very new in forensics.

I had though this way is the only way, because someone told me to not connect the mobilephones with the internet.
It is better to connect the mobilephones with the internet, then download the apk from another website?

Maybe it is helpfull to tell the way of extraction.
At first I do first the UFED extraction and after a long time not using this phone I must update WhatsApp.

Now I registered me for the WhatsApp Beta on the Goolge Play Store. But how can I download only the .apk?

WhatsApp Malware delivery mechanism described here

https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/research/2018/08/amnesty-international-among-targets-of-nso-powered-campaign/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app

A malicious link routes the target phone’s traffic through multiple anonymizing servers until the target phone reaches the “hidden” malware delivery server.

More detail “Overcoming Smartphone Interception Challenge”.

*** Dear Colleagues, what forensic artifacts would successful interception leave on iOS and Android?

There is work around for Whatsapp version update, if you are allowed to change date and time.
Go to application setting and check which version of Whatsapp installed on that specific device, Google the release date of that specific Whatsapp version. Adjust the date and time same as release date. e.g. Whatsapp version 2.19.81 released date 21 March 2019, ( your device date and time might be 6/11/2019 ) change the date and time manually and set to 28 March 2019. restart the device, it will works.

Whatsapp source code do validation on server time, so it could identify if it is outdated or not, i have reverse engineer the obfuscation and it do this now. Check.
