Data Capture Wizard: Acquisition & Storage Media – CPD Short Course
June 23 – June 27 UK/Southampton
Think acquisition is simple? Think again. TPMs are gatekeeping encryption, IoT devices are breeding like cyber-rabbits, and even your fridge is now a potential crime scene. Welcome to 2025, where digital forensic acquisition is a battlefield, and you need the right tools, skills, and sheer cunning to collect evidence effectively.
This five-day course is your hands-on, practitioner-led guide to mastering the modern acquisition landscape. Every topic includes purpose-built, interactive practical exercises, using appropriate low level tools (yes, including SDRs and chip-off methods, because sometimes you have to get that hands-on).
What’s on the menu?
– The Generalised Acquisition Framework – ensuring scientific rigor (already successfully used in cases worldwide!)
– Verification & Advanced verification – because just acquiring isn’t enough anymore
– Memory acquisition – RAM, volatile storage, and those sneaky artifacts
– Servers, networks, and cloud – because the evidence isn’t always on a single device
– Web & social media – OSINT meets forensic extraction
– Mobile phones & portable devices – everything from burner phones to encrypted nightmares
– Unusual devices – smartwatches, medical devices, even games consoles
– CCTV – cracking DVR systems & video forensics
– IoT – Washing machines, fridges, toasters, and rogue vacuum cleaners included
– Data in transit – capturing the evidence before it disappears
– Wireless acquisition – untangling the chaos of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and more
– Low-level hardware acquisition – chip-off, JTAG, ISP, and beyond
– Vehicles – because cars are computers now
– Equipment interference – when you need to get extra creative
– ISO and FSR compliance strategies
Where’s the fun happening?
– Work in our custom electronics lab (170+ seats)
– Get hands-on in a large-scale technical teaching lab (170+ seats)
– Experiment in an anechoic chamber – because sometimes you need a Faraday cage for science
Taught by practitioners who are also academics, this isn’t just theory, it’s real-world, trial-by-fire, hands-dirty low level learning.
Cost: £3,700 per student
Bursaries available (but limited!)
If you want to stop acquisition from being the nightmare that keeps you up at night, this course is for you!
