I have recently graduated with a BSc in Forensic Computing and am having problems gaining employment in the field.

Most employers that I have had interviews with require experience, which is where the dilemma starts, without gaining the experience from my industrial placement has left me in a catch 22 situation.

I require the opportunity to prove my worth and ability, just am finding it hard to open the door.

Any assistance or guidance with my dilemma is much appreciated. roll

I am in the same position but have had really helpfully advice from recruitment agencies

There are companies like PriceWater House and Deloitte who have graduate scheme for their forensic computing roles, unfortunately for me I don’t have enough UCAS point to apply even though I am expecting a 21, but they may be of use to you, and there are quite a few jobs in London at the moment that are open to recent graduate without experience in a forensic computing role.

I am also find jobs advertised with monster and totaljob and cwjobs so they are worth a look and if all else fails googling “forensic computing jobs” brings up some other good places to find vacancies, I have found a few that way.

Good luck

Matt,

I recommend doing what every person should do when breaking into a new field especially one as popular as this.

My first break came not too long ago when I started cold calling litigation support companies asking them for their HR department. In most cases these small companies don't advertise on Monster, Careerbuilder, dice, etc because they are too expensive and in the rare case they are willing to take a chance on a possible diamond in the rough. Be prepared to exude confidence and technical aptitude in addition to humility and "willingness to learn" It's a fine line but just maybe you can get some of the "experience required". If that doesn't work as quickly as you hope, try an EDD office doing whatever they need you to do. In a lot of cases you can start working as a processor and slowly get into what you really want to do.

I have experience with an excellent recruitment firm. Who usually reads this forum.

I graduated with an MSc Forensic IT and had no problem getting a foot in the door.

He might be out of the country, so it might take him a few days, if you want i could pass on your details to him? As i'm not one for posting contact details on public forums.

Tom
