Anyone know if there is a book that takes a general high level view on how to conduct an investigation? I figure since traditional forensics has been around for much longer and is a much bigger field, that there might be a general book that could be applied to computer forensic investigations.

Not exactly what I had in mind, but they look like I could learn from them, thanks.

I was thinking more of a general book on investigation that wasn't really written for computer forensics, but any forensics/investigative work. Something that would give advice such as stay calm, keep an open mind, be objective, methodical, thorough, etc.

Try this …

Principles and Practices of Criminalistics The Profession of Forensic Science (Protocols in Forensic Science) by Keith Inman and Norah Rudin

It ain't cheap - but I found it a really good read.

Yeah that looks about like what I'm looking for as long as it doesn't cover too much about processing a crime scene from a traditional crime, and has a lot of information that is relevant to computer forensics. Unfortunately you're right, the ain't cheap and is a lot more than I'm looking to spend. There has to be a cheaper book out there for me.

Take a look at Digital Evidence and Computer Crime by Eoghan Casey. It covers high-level forensic methodology (from a broad scientific perspective) and forensic computing and incident response as well.

Hope this helps.
