Good day,
I am looking into taking the CCE certification, I received my EnCE in 08 and have a BA in IS. I was wondering if it was possible to prepare for this exam without having to shell out 3k for the bootcamp. I did attend the bootcamp for Encase which was a pretty penny also. Any opinions on how to proceed preparing for the CCE exam topics? I have a good 2 years of experience in real world forensics but the only tool I have used is EnCase. The sample screening test on the CFTCO site was fairly easy. The study material links on the site offer such a broad category of topics. Thanks for all your time!
Q
Q,
The bootcamp is not needed. Your experience and background should be enough to get you through the CCE.
I would suggest you re-read all of the information available on the ISFCE website.
I took it about a year ago and remember them giving you two shots at passing the written portion. So, even if you fail the first time, you'll get a better idea of what to review then. Make sure they still offer this feature though, not sure if they do.
Good luck.

Chanko86,
Thank your for you advice. I am just a bit worried on the practical portion of this since I have not used any other software other then EnCase. I see that when you enroll you will be given a bundle of software to use, hopefully that will give me enough time to play with the software before using it to complete the practical. I'm use to having all these separate tool functions all bundled up for me in Encase.
As far as I recall you don't have to use their tools or, indeed, any particular tool set. They tend to be very pedantic about the content of the reports but, apart from that, it is pretty much up to the student to do the analysis and to present the results in any way he pleases.

Thanks so much Roncufley! That answers it for me!
You also get two chances with the multiple choice question.

You are welcome, I am glad to help.
Just wanted to add for others seeking CF knowledge, FSFA by Carrier is a excellant read and reference. Thumbs up for this forum pointing me to this book.
I took the boot camp myself back in late '07/early '08 and it was tremendous. Gary Kessler and Jonathan Rajewski drove the lectures home with intimate file system knowledge and report writing critique.
You may right in that experience could get you through the written and even the practicals, but consider it a great learning experience if you can shell out the cash. They do provide military/law enforcement discounts I believe…
