I would just like to get a sense of what the members of this community think of the CFCE certification and the CCE certification respectively.
I am considering doing a vendor neutral computer forensics certification, which is linked to a professional member body, which requires recertification and CPE's, in which the certification process includes practical proficiency testing and not just academic examinations.
If there are other certifications out there that meet this criteria that I have not mentioned, feel free to discuss those as well.
I just finished my CCE. I found that the benefits of having it are more than say, the ACE or EnCE. Its taken more seriously than these as, like you say, they are vendor neutral. I also found that doing the reports for the practical phases of the test really encouraged me to look at my investigations in more detail. It is quite a small community (just over 1000 members) but this doesn't matter as there are plenty of qualified people to contact if you run into any difficulties.
In short - the CCE comes highly recommended.
As for the CFCE, I have look into it and it appears that is depepndant on who you know and who you work for.
Perhaps you see EnCE more than CCE because the EnCE is a vendor certification for a product that is either used or heard of in many companies. Additionally, the EnCE has been around a little longer than the CCE. Finally, the EnCE is heavily marketed while the CCE is not.
Job postings are generally good fun to read, because most are copy and paste by folks who have no real idea of the job at hand, only a keyword GOOGLE search for acronyms, certifications, etc.
These certifications are _very_ different animals. Perhaps Company A cares that an applicant knows how to interact with a tool they use such as EnCase in their company, and they prefer the EnCE. And perhaps Company B cares that an applicant is both a good analyst and writer, and so this company puts stock in the CCE.
Cheers!

…. some good study material for the CCE quiz ?
Daniele, do not worry about the on-line exam, if you are involved in forensics and know a fair amount about PCs you will not have a problem. As always read the question carefully, some are not immediately obvious.

Not likely. From http//
Besides, their web site already offers some great samples.
Is the CCE well regarded in the UK?
Would be interesting to hear some recruiter input on this.
Having access to the CCE list is worth the price of admission itself. There isn't enough chatter on here to satisfy me )
Shhh. If everyone finds out how valuable the list is everyone will want to be a CCE. Shhhhhh. )
I am CFCE and this is a vendor independent certificate. It is very common in Law Enforcement environment. Feel free to ask if you are interested in more details.

Thanks FarmerDude! You just about took the words right out of my mouth.
In my honest opinion vendor specific qualifications, such as the EnCE, are there primarily for the benefit of the company, ie. The more people that have the EnCE, the more people have to come back and sign up for training every couple of years. Its more marketing that a professional certification. This doesn't mean that I take it lightly as I have both my EnCE and my CCE and they are both valuable. However, in recent months, Guidance have made getting the EnCE a lot easier and simpler - I feel that this has somewhat diluted the effect of holding this certification.
Like I said, its an opinion, feel free to disagree.
