Have you considered taking one class online to see if it meets your expectations?
initial opinions
I have not been to campus, but am working through the Certificate program in my spare time. For people just starting in the industry I think there is is pretty good diversity even in the first class. Much like other online classes you get out what you put in. You could cruise through the class, but if you interact with what your classmates post and actually generate a discussion you will get more out of it. From my standpoint, I have already seen most of the material in other training.
An acquaintance of mine complete their C&DF certificate and was quite pleased with the curriculum and the knowledge he gained - he completed it via distance learning. Since you're in a position to physically attend, why don't you take a drive there and talk to some of the profs?
I am currently enrolled at Champlain College in the Computer and Digital Forensics program. Like you, I lived further away and hate the cold with a passion, but the program here is well worth these small inconveniences. The professors know what they're talking about as most of them are still actively working in the field. The program is constantly being updated to teach current best practices in the field, and the professors often push discussions on recent events (i.e. iPad release) and how it will affect forensic investigations. Outside the classroom the professors are very approachable. Class sizes are small which allows the professors to learn your name and help you when you run into a problem. I would highly recommend you visit the campus to see all this firsthand. I'm sure if you were to request it, they admissions staff would allow you to sit in on one of the forensic classes to see how it's run.
