I have an A.A.S. from my local University. Since then, I have had 15 years of I.T. tech experience. Im looking at the Bachelor’s degree for C&DF at Champlain via online. What would the cost be and how long might it take to complete?

Having taken classes in hopes of getting a BS from Champlain, I was extremely disappointed. They limit you to only 9 credit hours of work/life experience. You'll also find that the courses are more geared towards writing instead of actually learning something valuable. And like most colleges, I guarntee you'll know more than the professor in some of the classes.

IMHO, not worth the high tuition fees they charge.

Might skip the BS and just focus on the Cybercrime classes from Kennesaw state university. Cost is a big issue here.

Just curious as to when you last took a class from Champlain? The program is fairly new (4 or 5 years old now I think), so back a few years ago it was really still progressing and still is, but has made substantial improvements. The program now is better than it has ever been and will only continue to get better. There has been some new staff hired on board this year with a lot of forensic knowledge. IMHO, you’re not going to get as much out of the online program as you actually do in class. I've taken online and in-class and there is a very big difference. I'm a senior graduating this December and I think the classes have been wonderful and the program overall is really great.

Anyway, that's my .02. And earthbuddy, you should get a couple of opinions if you’re interested. If it's possible, visit the school, setup a tour, email some of the c&df faculty, talk to other people who go there or have gone there. I wouldn't base your decision on only mine and DoDForensics opinions.

DoDForensics, I'm sorry that you were disappointed and didn't have a better experience at Champlain. It really has improved over the years though.

Good Luck!

Derrick

I started at that rip off school this past year. They don't give you nearly enough credits for work/life, the teachers doing the forensics courses were awful…but yet they still seem to manage to brainwash people into thinking its a decent course! Trust me, if you were actually working in this field, you'd think the courses were a an overprices joke as well.

Yet another .02 worth!

We're all entitled to our own opinion. And no I may not work in the field of computer forensics.. yet. But I do work in the field of IS full time and have an internship with the computer crimes unit at Burlington Police Department and I still don't feel like the school is "an overpriced joke".

I am curious though, you said you had courses there this past year and the "the teachers doing the forensics courses were awful", do you recall who you had for instructors? I'm just wondering whom you are referring to..

I'm not trying to promote or "sell" the school in anyway; I just thought I would add my own .02 on the expereince I had, as well as you did D

I am grateful that I didn't have the lame experience you had 8)
