Hey everyone.
I need to write a paper for the university regarding cyberattacks in Europe and what measures are being taken by european countries to prevent those attacks.
I would need some statistics about the types of cyberattacks originating and targeting Europe and any other recent pertinent stats.
Are there some measures (technical or legal) that are already in place to help prevent those attacks.
Some information about the botnet usage in Europe would be great.
I know that there is a lot of ForensicFocus members in Europe and I was wondering if you guys could guide me to some pertinent information, websites, stats, government institutions, etc. that could help me with my paper.
Any information in English or French would really be appreciated.
thanks
Hitman,
I'm afraid I don't have experience in Europe, but I did sit in on an interview with an LE agency that had apprehended an Eastern Euro hacker who had perpetrated a number of identity theft/wire frauds against American financial entities.
When asked why he didn't focus on European banks or financial entities, he said that Europeans were considered, in the malicious hacking community, to be using systems that were too secure for what he wanted to accomplish.
Sorry I don't have any more info than that, but I thought it was an interesting comment….
Bienvenue,
Crosser
Several security vendors release 'security threat/cybercrime' reports that have stats mostly around phishing, malware underground services that maybe of interest. Check out these reports from McAfee, Symantec, and others. Am not in Europe so not sure about official stats.
Hi Hitman,
You might want to have a look at our Data Breach Investigations Report as well, which provides statistics for all the breach cases our team has investigated in 2004-2007 and in 2008 (so the data is based on actual cases, no interpretations, questionnaires or 'I heard this is a problem' stuff).
There is information about origin and targets of attacks in there, as well as information on methods used. For the 2004-2007 version there is a supplement which details the findings for specific industries and for the current version we are working on a supplement which describes some of the attack vectors we have seen in more detail.
If you have any specific questions after reading these you can always drop me an e-mail and I can get you in contact with the people who collected the data and wrote the report - sometimes they are able to provide people with a specific subset of the data or other information.
Thanks jelle,
This is the kind of report I was looking for.
