Hi all,
Could someone tell me here how credible the EC-council's CHFI certification is?
I'd like some pointers around this as I'd like to pursue a career in this area.
Also, would anybody be able to give me vendor neutral support on what you think a good certification path would be to get into this area?
I already hold a degree in Information Technology, but I dont want to go down the road of doing another academic Masters degree.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
Laura

I recommend the vendor-neutral Certified Computer Examiner (CCE) certification as a good starting point. There is a training course for the CCE offered either in-class and on-line, but you can always choose to follow the self-study route though you will not have access to ISFCE-approved study materials if you choose self-study. Depending on your IT background CompTIA A+ is another vendor-neutral certification which can offer some value.
It is highly recommended the CEH course be taken before the CHFI course according to the EC-Council web site. Based on a quick review of both the CEH and CHFI you might be better served with the CCE as a first certification in the area of digital forensics.
I got a CHFI via a boot camp training course, and it's a nice fundamentals course. You don't really need the CEH course before you take it.
If you have the funds for training then both the CHFI and CCE would be a good mix, otherwise I agree with ba2llb that the CCE would be a better starting point. Mainly because you get theory and the test is both written and practical based. The CHFI is just a computer based test.
