I recently switched from FTK 1.81 to 2.x (AccessData) in my private forensics lab. While my first experiences were a little shakey I am now quite pleased with the 2.2 version. I have successfully completed several cases with 2.2 and found the new features/format to be very helpful. I would like to get others opinions of this product's performance on other cases.
Can you please give me the specs on your machine and how you are running FTK 2.2? I still use 1.8 because of the performance issues.
Currently FTK 1.81 is faster than version 2.2. However, there are features that I find very useful in version 2.2. My system is not set up for optimal performance. It is a FRED machine with 2 dual core processors and 4GB RAM with 2 500 GB hard drives running at 7500 RPMs. To enhance the performance I envoke only the standard (default) processes on the first run then pick the other processes that the case requires. Also version 2.2 is significantly faster than 2.0 or 2.1. Ideally you would put your ORACLE database on a seperate computer to do the data handling. This is not a requirement. BEST news of all is the upcomming release of version2.2.1 which has been rumored to increase speed by 50%. All-in-all I have found the extra time to be justified by the products improvements and extra features. E-mail me at docwells@charter.net for specifics. Stqy Safe.
I am also using FTK 2.2 and have not yet had any problems. My machine specs are
Intel QuadCore (Q9600 I think) 2.6 Ghz
8 Gb RAM
MS Vista 64bit Ultimate
..no frills video card
FTK installed on one physical drive (SATA 300)
ORACLE installed on separate physical drive (SATA 300)
…no raid….
Windows XP Home 32bit running in VMWare
