Hi all

Thinkin of doing my final year project on Game console forensics. I was thinking of doing this with the playstation 3,xbox,wii to view chat logs, cookies, temporary internet files, user activity, look at the files on the hard drive. i am able to take a forensic duplicate of the xbox hard drive using a sata cable but the file system fatx is not able to be read by windows. Only thing i could find was xexplorer and fatx explorer but would these be ok for the final year project. Also have no idea about how to extract the flash memory from the wii. I think i would have to mod the wii to perform a forensic analysis on it and cant anthin about the file system it uses

Any idea's, suggestions, links would be appreciated

Thanks

Fonz,

Often getting the required information and presenting it in a logical, sensible way is what can be the hardest. I would suggest you pic on system and write some method to extract and present in a logical, presentable fashion such as a HTML report or PDF. Writing the code, identifying what you have to capture and where the information comes from could form part of your research.

Alternatively, pick 2 systems and focus on 1 or 2 area and do a comparison e.g. XBox vs Wii internet history

Make sure what you propose is achievable and don't try and do everthing, there's always room for further research i.e. PHd or masters! 😉

thanks Ronan see ur from Ireland too, doing my final year in Waterford. After a bit more research ive decided to go with the xbox 360. I can connect it to my pc using a sata cable and use a program called xplorer360 to view the fatx filesystem. For the final year project i have to program something to view the internet history and log it to screen. Any idea's on how to do this??
