Hello everyone,

This is my first post here at FF–looks to be a great site from what I've seen so far.

I am currently attending Century College in White Bear Lake, MN, studying towards an A.S. in Computer Forensics. It is a very interesting program, and I enjoy my time there. However, recent job market (and my status as a contractor in IT) have brought about an urgency in pursuing my education in Forensics.

My question to the community is what are the best skillsets to obtain in the industry? Obviously obtaining industry certifications will be vital in being considered for jobs, and also testifying in courtroom situations…I am looking for more specific skills like data carving, browser forensics, etc…

I appreciate any input you can offer!
Thanks in advance!

Yes.

But seriously, IMHO, the most important skillset is to experiment and discover.

Pick what you enjoy doing to start with. Pick an OS and then figure all you can about it. UNIX forensics is different than Windows. The tools are different. So pick one, then grab all the tools you can and play. Tweak the data then try the same tools again and see if you can tell if there are any changes in the results. Play, play, and realize what the tools do.
