I have no formal programming background. Just trying to complete the last Cybersecurity class to get my undergrad degree. Trying to validate testing Adroit Photo 2013 and I have all the NIST, NIJ docs, but its all foreign to me.

Got some basic explanation about validation. I understand you have to test the tool to make sure it works and its valid. Yes I get that part.

I just don't get how to do it, there are no YouTube video instructions, and all the nicely packaged reports with codes and programming are over my head.

I mean if there was some kind of video somewhere I would love to see what this is all about and how to do it.

Otherwise, forensic tool validation makes no sense to me. I thought picking an easy to use tool like Adroit would make it help, but it doesn't.

They don't sell a book for dummies, otherwise I would have bought and figured out this project.

Yes I reached out to my Professor, to the TA, to Google, to NIST, to SWDGE, to NIJ, to YouTube, and nothing can shows an amatuer who never heard of validation nor has any clue where to start.

We have dabbled with FTK and Encase, and WinMD5…but barely scratching the surface as students with no programming background nor experience.

What do you not understand about this NIST document?

You get the basic concept, but don't understand tool validation? Can you elaborate?

All those resources and no one handed you the answer? Imagine that. What did you try as a Google search? Google Search "validate forensic software"

Do the following first few hits not help?

http//www.dfinews.com/articles/2011/03/validation-forensic-tools-and-software-quick-guide-digital-forensic-examiner

http//www.dfinews.com/articles/2011/12/validating-proprietary-digital-forensic-tools-case-open-source

If this is the last step in getting your degree and you are unable to validate your tools you stand very little chance of getting a job.
