Hello,

I have been lurking these forums for a while and I was after some advice. Apologies in advance if I've posted in the wrong location.

Having completed my degree I've found my technical knowledge somewhat lacking. Very lacking in fact. I have not been taught at GCSE, A-level or degree level anything about operating systems, the differences between file structures/systems and only a little about network infrastructure. What I did learn throughout university and my experience in the industry (about 2 years ago) I have now mostly forgotten.

Basically what a lot of job adverts are asking for, I tick all the boxes apart from this arguably basic knowledge.

In short, I need to teach myself. I'm looking for advice on where to begin. I've been looking for reading material to start with on the train (currently travelling 4 hours a day) to help find my feet.

What are the basic areas I should be familiar with when applying for a CF role? Could anyone provide any useful reading material, in books or online, to help get me started? What are the basics employers are looking for before starting a computer forensic or mobile analyst job?

I already have an idea of where to begin, I am after the advice of more experienced professionals.

Many thanks for your time!

I wonder if a new edition is planned? It's now over eight years old.

One good way to learn is to write a program to analyse/ investigate/view certain issues that interest you.
