Greetings All,
I recently heard about this program being developed at the University College Dublin
How well regarded is this program? Does a master's degree from UCD present a problem for American employers? Would anyone strongly advise against this? Is there anything similar in the US? Is this a productive use of a two year commitment?
To be quite honest, I would love the opportunity to study forensics further and see Ireland in the process. But I also want to make sure the program is a well regarded one that will carry some weight with employers, US, European or otherwise. Any insight that anyone can share is greatly appreciated
Thank you!
Morning Monokle
I can not really help as I have not attended this University BUT Dublin has an excellent reputation as does its academic staff.
HOWEVER did you note this rider on the page for the course
Please note that all Forensic Computing & Cybercrime Investigation programmes/modules are restricted to members of LAW ENFORCEMENT ONLY. This includes agents of any organisation that has responsibility for the enforcement of national or local legislation.
-(
Also note that to get into LE in Ireland you need to be a member of the Garda, so you have to do your many years of foot patrol / duty as plod before you can even join (from what I hear) the extensive waiting list to join a very small forensics team.
I have a Masters in forensics from an Irish institute and there are as good as zero jobs in Ireland… I spent over a year looking and had to move to the UK! So just something to consider for Irish looking to get a job out of this course, it will be a long time before you get into computer forensics within the LE (unless they change their policies and allow Police Staff like in the UK!
Thank you GlosSteveC and 4ensics,
Being abroad, it is hard to gauge an institution's program. But your insight is very helpful. Regarding the LE component, they do have a seperate masters program for non-LE candidates, which is where I would be applying.
Thanks again for weighing in.
