Hi all,
I am due to finish an MSc in Information Security and Computer forensics and am looking to get a job whilst doing a dissertation.
However I am having difficulties in actually getting a foot in the door and wondered if it was possible to give me advice on how to get started?
I have experience with Encase, FTK and some experience with Helix and I am currently signed up with a couple of IT/Forensics recruiters but I have so far been unsuccessful in getting a job.
I think my main interests in CF are in a law enforcement role so any advice on how to go about doing that would greatly help.
I am based in Essex in the U.K but can easily commute into London.
Many thanks in advance,
Jon
Ok so had no luck with responses last time but thought it might be better to add to this thread rather than start a new one.
Since my previous post I graduated from my masters degree with merit and managed (with the help of a recruiter) to get a six month position in the computer forensics field as a digital forensics investigator where I gained some hands on experience with Encase and FTK.
However I am now currently looking for work again (preferably full time) and would still like some advice on where is best to look.
I have read the stickies in the getting started and job hunting advice sections of the forum but have a problem in finding work from old colleagues in that all my old colleagues work for my previous company.
Does anyone have any advice for looking for work in the UK specifically within the london or south east of England areas?
For example, is there a particular job website or board that people would advise using as many positions are not advertised on standard job websites such as Monster?
I am currently in the process of joining 2 LinkedIn groups in computer forensics, make daily checks on many standard job website boards (monster, total, guardianjobs e.t.c) and have recently registered at the Security Cleared jobs website.
Most of the jobs I have found are either senior level or in the midlands.
Any help would be much appreciated and apologies for the large amounts of text.
Hiring is kinda slow right now all over.
I know that Kent HTCU were/are hiring…
And we are shortly going to be advertising an entry level position in our HTCU
I can't speak for certainty since I don't live there, but the UK seems to have a lot more jobs compared with the US. I got pushed into E-Discovery work after finishing my degree and a government internship in CF.
It's a very tough market right now, my advice would be to take what you can get- don't wait too long and let other grads overlap you.
