I have about 10 years experience in the Computer Forensics arena, of which 4 have been directly related to Computer Forensic Investigations including collections, computer artifact investigation, data reconstructions and report writing. I've worked entirely in the private industry as I've found that it is easier to gain experience and more financially rewarding. I'm very interested in making the transition into the public sector but have found mixed research in terms of government organiziations that hire civilians to do this type of work. I live in southern california and would like to know if, specifically, there are any other southern californians that have made the transition from private sector to civilian public sector and knows which agencies hire civilians. Also, any advise having to do with the Pro's or Con's to this type of switch would be greatly appreciated, namely related to Work/Life balance, Pay (Pension, other benefits, salary), access to resources (training, other investigators, interesting cases, etc). Thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses.
