There isn't a yes or no answer. Essentially it will depend on for what you were cautioned and the view your potential employer takes of the relevance of that offence to the job in question.

If it was for an offence of dishonesty (e.g. theft, deception, burglary) it will be far more of an impediment than if it were for drunk and disorderly, threatening behaviour, or even assault.

By the way, until it is spent you must declare it if required to do so; you commit a specific offence if you don't and others (e.g. fraud, formerly obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception) according to the circumstances.

Thanks for the reply. I'll ask any companies what the implication this will have if I ever got called up as an expert witness.

It was only a minor offence but still having a caution for something doesnt sound very good.

Just curious, from a law enforcement perspective in North America a caution is just that (in the States they call them Miranada rights). You are advised you are a suspect and should be aware of your right against self-incrimination and to legal counsel (what we call lawyering-up). What do you mean by 'caution' in your situation? In 36 years of law enforcement I don't think I have ever heard a caution referred to in the way you seem to be concerned with.

In the UK a caution is the next step up from a warning. Basically a slap on the wrist. A warning doesnt need to be declared to an employer but a caution does. It shows up on criminal record checks for 5 years before been spent where it only shows up on high level checks. Its not a conviction which stays on record forever.

Hi,

There are probably a lot more people who have some blemmish on their records than we might expect. That isn't a good thing but from your point of view, you have put in a lot of effort and employers should be impressed by that.
