New person here. I agree with jhooker in regards to knowing more about "the guts" (math, how filesystems work, assembler). I have been in the computer industry for a few years but have no formal computer science training. I think you're right in that it will give a person that edge.

Am currently in my 2nd Year oF Forensic Computing (BSC) At UWE Bristol, the course is good, but as many others have found, there will be modules you dont like / dont feel are relevant, some of the modules will be generic computing, follwed by some modules that are more specific to forensic computing. My course structure is shown at the link below if your interested.

Also open day this saterday, alot of unis are now doing the course, i know of staffs, glamorgan, de montford, middlesex, (type forensic computing bsc into google for full list).

True of any program you take at any school. On one hand it is that grounding and broadening that one needs, on the other just necessity for accreditation, etc. Try to bear with it as you may find the very courses you hated are the ones that helped you the most.

Indeed, i know what you mean, in the broader sense the modules do make sense for 2 reasons, firstly to bring everyone up to the same ( or similar) standard for year 2, and also if the person taking the degree decides not to go into forensics they can still work in other areas. What i wouldent give for more law/forensic stuff though! ( our lecturer advised us to basicly self learn as much as poss).

For the people who are currently in university, I was just wondering on what reason did you choose to go your selected unversity.
