I am going to be graduating from St. Petersburg College with an AS degree in Digital Forensics.
I want to start looking for jobs before I finish my degree. Since I will have my degree with no experience where should I start to look for a job? As I haven't been able to find much under digital forensics, what name should I look jobs up?
After I finish my AS degree from SPC I want to further my education. Does anyone have experience in switching to Champlain College? http//
Is there anything else I should know before finishing my degree, extending my education towards a masters, or the job market?
Degree http//
Although I do not have any personal experience with Champlain, I believe that would be a great place to extend your education. Very positive reputation, federal support (Leahy Center for Digital Investigation) and an well rounded curriculum. There are a few other programs as well, all with their pros and cons.
You can also look at (in no particular order)
The George Washington University (my alma mater)
George Mason
Purdue
Johns Hopkins
Carnegie Mellon
University of Central Florida
Sam Houston State
All of these schools have very good programs, though under different names and colleges, but all very immersed in the field of digital and multimedia forensics. You'll need to decide whats best for you personally based on time, costs, areas of interest, etc.
Good luck!
I am currently a student at Champlain College in Vermont. I am pursuing my BS in Computer Forensics and Digital Investigations through their online curriculum. I have two AS degrees in different computer science majors. Just about all of my credits transferred to the college and currently, I have about 30 credits left in my bachelors. I am thinking about applying for a concurrent program for my masters, as well.
Champlain was one of the first, if not the first college to offer such a curriculum in Digital Forensics as a major. So they definitely should be at the top of your list if you're thinking about going further with this kind of career. They also offer focuses within the degree to pad out your resume to let a possible employer know what you specialize in.
I was able to secure student loans to cover my online expenses and their online Canvas portal is top notch, with nary a moment of downtime. I get emails often about possible internships that are offered across the country due to my degree. Students from Champlain are in high demand in the field because of the curriculum that is offered there at the college.
I would definitely suggest that you get a hold of someone their at the college and have a chat with an adviser about credit transfer and student aid.
I don't have any experience with any of the aforementioned schools (I'm at University of Phoenix) but I know that Champlain grads are in high demand. Look at getting some certs as well, they are a good way to boost your resume.
