I believe the one in scotland has a 14 week work placement which would be very good as opposed to the one in dublin, yes i had a look at it allright did you have any trouble getting a job after it?

No trouble what so ever, but then again you have to be proactive and search the job market. We had a number of companies come in and talk to us and deliver presentations as to why we should work for them. Alot left contact details and towards the end of the semester followed up with us to see if anyone would be interested in joining them. This masters isnt just for Forensics, its security related so it opens up other avenues too.

Ya i see what u are saying may not be a good idea to put my eggs in the one basket and all that,(strictly forensics, although it seems interesting and pays well in the uk)…the thing is at this stage its looking likely that i will be coming out of my degree course with 0 years experience which aint good for getting your foot in the door, but the MSc in glasgow looks promising and all got jobs after it,did u have any industry experience urself?

Yeah, I did have experience before doing the masters, but I know some in the class who had no experience and now have jobs from it. In fairness the masters is more crypto related with only one forensics course, but its really worth while.

Hi,

I did the MSc at Strathclyde 2 years ago, and I thought it was an excellent course.

You spend the first 12 week semester with the traditional forensics folks learning about well chemistry and biology and stuff. Then you do a Crime Scene to court module - where you get to go out and do the crime scene investigation stuff and then all the way to court.

The second semester is where you spend time with computers and spend time on a mock case from seizure to reporting.

Lastly there is the work placement, where you work on your masters project out in the 'real' world, this was the best part of the course.

I think it was worthwhile as it helped me hugely in securing a job in this field

Cash is mostly based on experience and your willingness to get the job done. Once your in the door you should aim for a development plan and get some certifications.

Once your in and can prove yourself you'll soon start making that extra bit of cash, and once you get your certifications more options open up.

In terms of the job scene, check the Vacancies posts in the Forum or contact David Sullivan (regularly posts in the forum) for some advice. The Irish market is starting to take off and you'll find that most of the obvious organisations (financial and law) need some kind of computer expert either for security implementations or forensics work.

Ya but what would the basic salary be for someone who has completed that masters and gotten a job based on the 3 mths work experience,i mean would it be a 9-5 job or is it mostly based on the amount of work available…
