Hello all. I am posting this to see if there is a possibility of picking up a day or two a week working locally. I know that this line of business is sporadic at best. I am willing to work a few hours a week in the Pittsburgh, PA area. This will accomplish a few things; the first is to supplement my income, the second would be to gain some knowledge and experience from someone that has been in the business longer than I, and thirdly, I can help to ease your caseload slightly without the need for you to hire a full-time employee.
I understand this would be a unique situation but in these economic times I think it may benefit both of us.
Call me stupid but IMHO this is a poorly worded post.
Let's look at what you have said.
1) Supplement my income (to a lot of people means that you're not getting much business.)
2) Gain some knowledge (in a field like this I'm pretty sure you can see where someone wouldn't want you "gaining some knowledge" you should know what you know and if you learn something it's done through watching and not advertising. I personally wouldn't hire anyone who is looking to gain some knowledge, but I think its just saying "that is what you are looking to do" that would be a red flag. Get the job, watch others around you, make mental notes.
3) Gain experience (see #2, this just isn't the type of business to gain experience on someones dime. Most people who are working steady have a reputation and now bringing in someone who needs knowledge and experience just doesn't look good to any of the involved parties.)
Honestly, if you are counsel, would you want to hire someone based on this? Or if this was your livelihood or freedom would you want the same?
These are tough times, but IMHO the post could be reworded much better.
I guess it wasn't worded as good as it could've been. I am more than adequately trained in terms of computer examinations. I have very little training or experience with cell phones or other devices, such as GPS and such.
As for my income, it is not up to the level that I'd like it to be but the primary reason for that is lack of equipment. I'm currently using FTK v1.62. I hope to have a new copy of EnCase soon, which will allow me to expand my horizons. So my lack of income is more related to lack of resources, not lack of knowledge. I have not marketed my skills because of this. I'm confident that if I pursued it, I could get some business.
But yes, after reading your post, then re-reading mine, it does look a little awkwardly worded.
