Hey, thanks for add, I've been a lurker for a while but finally decided to pop the question. roll
I'm in the field actually working and have already completed a Bachelors from Westwood College of Tech. which is a tech school for Information System Security. While the education was great and is helping to get a few of the DoD recognized certifications like the network+, security+, and the like, the reputation of the school was skewed more than I was opened my eyes to believe until after I was halfway through. ? Whatcha going to do.
I graduated there approximately 3 years ago and looking to get more into a computer forensics realm then the fraud investigations for a large .com company I'm at right now. I have in the past worked at a Finance firm doing some risk analysis, pen testing, server/client hardening, and compliance auditing, etc, etc, so have an background in security. Also here shortly I'm hoping to get onto a team working with law enforcement handling subpoenas, or since AccessData is in the general area, looking to get on with them.
But that's 6-9 months down the line, now I'm thinking it would be in my best interest to go back to school though for more structured courses on chain of custody, applicable case law, and other similar topics.
I'm thinking of looking at going back for a dual major from a 4 year university in criminal justice and focus electives on "computer forensics-esque" courses, however neither the community college or the grad school in the area have these types of classes so it will be mainly evidence preservation, profiling, and case law. From there to get actual experience in the tools I had thought about getting a few certs and even doing the SANS courses which would be a help getting the GIAC. Most of my credits will already transfer so I'm only looking at 2-2 1/2 years full time student for the 4 year degree.
The other option is DeVry or ITT and doing everything online as most of the courses aren't on ground in the area. Although more of my credits would transfer, I'm not sure about doing online courses for a major and having a second degree from a second tech school.
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.
