Hello all,

Looking for some salary negotiation advice. I have been interviewing with one of the Big4's and am expecting to enter into salary negotiations soon. Typically wouldn't be a issue checking glassdoor, but the job is in New York which has a much higher cost of living than what I am currently use to. I was wondering if there were others here that have experienced taking on a new job and relocation to NY? What is a good starting range for a associate level hire in that region? The cost of living scares me, I feel like I would be taking a drop in quality of life.

example currently making 65k in Florida, expecting a job offer of 75k in NYC.

Take a look at "Cost of Living" comparison sites. They can give you a starting point.

For example moving from Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall FL Metro Div. to New York-White Plains-Wayne NY-NJ Metro Div. - New York (Manhattan) NY, the Florida income of $65,000 is equivalent to $134,309.09, according to BankRate.com

Jhup thank you. I did find similar sites. I feel the second I ask for 134,000 as a associate I'd get a quick shut down and chuckle.

I was hoping to hear from others possibly that made the move to NYC that could give advice on NYC salaries/compensation and Cost of living.

Yes, you will get shut down.

If you're going in as a first year associate, lower your expectations by at least half and probably a little bit more.

Prove your worth at the company and then go in for your yearly, or get promoted within and get a nice raise that way, but going in you will not make anywhere near that.
