Hello

I’m hoping to get a 1st on my Forensic Computing degree in June and I am currently in the process of looking for a graduate job. However, I have recently been thinking more and more about going to the USA or Australia for a year or two with the hope of getting a job in e-discovery or computer forensics.

Does anyone know of any companies in the USA or Australia which would take on a UK graduate? Has anyone from the UK managed to get a graduate job in this industry, in the USA or Australia? I’d appreciate any advice / comments that could help me in trying to find a job out there.

Thanks, Armando

P.S. I’m still looking for a job in the UK too so if anyone has any positions available then I would very much like to send my CV to them.

Armando,

Check out Protiviti if you are looking for something in e-discovery or internal audit. They have a rather substantial client base and they have international offices including one in London. Check out their website for more information. It may or may not be what you are looking for but it is worth looking into. Good luck.

It was my understanding that Protiviti had pulled out of CF in the UK 6 months or so ago… I may be wrong but a cursory glance at their website provides only US-based contacts for CF.

Fab4,

That may be true, I did not know of a recent pullout in the UK but they have yet to remove their London office from the listing of global contact information on their website. This is what I was going by

To contact the nearest Protiviti office call 1.888.556.7420 (North America only) or check our global office locations.

UNITED KINGDOM
London
Note New Location
Protiviti Limited
Grand Buildings
1-3 Strand, Charing Cross
London WC2N 5AB

Fax +44 (0) 20.7930.8807
contact@protiviti.co.uk

Armando,

They may or may not be offering computer forensic services at the London location currently but the site may provide you with information about an opportunity in the US.

Thank you acarr31 for your suggestion. I have emailed Protiviti before about UK based jobs but had no reply. I may give them a call asking specifically about any international positions.

Do check out work permits - I think they are extremely difficult to get and you may have to prove that you have skills no US citizen has. Also, maybe evidence that you no intention of staying.

Don't be put off, but do be warned.

Just a thought - it may be tough. You will have to convince an organisation that u r significantly better than their local grads. The local grads will be a lot easier to hire, as not only do they not require work permits, they will be easier to get security clearances for if necessary.

The easiest way would probably be to work for a UK company that has offices abroad, then once you've been in the company for a bit, attempt to transfer to one of their foreign offices
