Hi,
I have a requirement to be able to determine the device a specific .3gp video clip came from. I have been looking at info on 3GP metadata and have a extracted a number of ascii strings from the clip, and been able to decode some of them - mostly related to Quicktime.
Does anyone know of a tool that can assist me, or even if it is possible to identify more specifics about the mobile phone that was used to record a 3gp clip ?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If you are on a Mac
Open it in Quicktime then use "Apple J" keystroke.
Sometimes the device will write a value into one of the annotations.
If you have a suspect device and you can create a file on it… the obvious follows.
3gp files do contain metadata although not that much. They contain the 3GP version, and information about the device that took the movie (in the case of a mobile phone camera phone). That also embed that date and time the movie was taken (as per the phone settings)
I tried about 6 programs which were capable of viewing this data.
All but one decoded the date incorrectly (out by 1 hour).
I did a load of testing, setting the phone clock back to a point in time, taking a movie, then viewing the metadata.
I am working away from my office until the end of the week, so don't have access to the correct free program to hand.
It was called something like 'mediaview' (free), but I will update this post on my return to the office.
