Question
My hard drive is experiencing some strange noises, and I am unsure if the drive is failing. How can I determine if the noises are due to a failing hard drive?
Listen to 6 sound waves made by six different crashed hard drives.

#3 sounded like there is not enough air to keep the head/arm floating so it springs back to the locked state… but then what do I know.

I have one that I want you to listen to, just have to record it first… D

This would make a great "guess the sound" games.

I nominate Mr. Brush to be the "hard drive whisperer"…

How scary is it right now I am actually diagnosing a sound.

Talk to to me hard drive, whats wrong? Your arm stuck? Firmware issue? Just let me get the pictures off for the client and I can put you to rest. It will be ok….

Poor fella had a bad spindle motor and has to go to the "clean room in the sky."

That wouldn't be near as odd as listening to the drive answer. . .
