Hi all,

Can anyone clarify to me what "ACPO Recognized Formal Qualification" means? Is it the qualification obtained by passing NPIA course?

It probably depends on who's asking for an ACPO Recognised Formal Qualification? Is it in a job description?

ACPO Recognised Formal Qualification

It might be an ambiguous title 'if', in the candidate's application form, it fails to identify which "recognised formal qualification" ACPO deem they think is suitable or where to find that information? Check careful and if there is no assistance given in the material provided (and look for the clause eg or check the website) write to them and give yourself a bonus point for keeping your wits about you when noticing detail.

Hi Braveheart.

What they are asking for is probably one of the courses that are recommended in the ACPO Guide for Computer Based Electronic Evidence, which can be downloaded from here.

Off the top of my head, the courses offered by the NPIA and Cranfield University make up the majority of the recommended courses, though product specific training from Guidance Software or AccessData may also be desirable.

Hope this helps

JC

Hi,

Thank U all. I indeed emailed the HR and ask them to clarify regarding "ACPO Recognized Formal Qualification". This is what they replied

Me Thank you for the email. Could you please clarify to me the term "formal qualification" that you have mentioned in your email required for this role? Do you mean academic qualification in Hi-Tech Crime and Forensics? If it is academic qualification as I believe, then I am pleased to inform you that I have a Master's Degree in Computer Forensics and a Bachelor's Degree in Science.

HR replied Further to our telephone conversation today, I have spoken with the hiring manager, the role requires somebody who holds formal qualifications in high tech crime and they have confirmed that unfortunately this does not count as a formal ACPO recognised qualification.

What, committing high tech crime or investigating it?

unfortunately this does not count as a formal ACPO recognised qualification.

So you haven't actually received a response identifying the categories of ACPO recognised qualification?

Braveheart, perhaps you may wish to contact David Sullivan (http//www.appointments-uk.co.uk/homepage.php) who may provide some assistance to you.

I work for LE and have been to Shrivenham (Cranfield) . I've got to admit I've never heard of an 'ACPO recognised qualification'.

I think there are some HTCUs in the UK who do not send their staff to either Cranfield or NPIA.
