I am working a case where all AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) sessions have been automatically saved. I have examined the AIM software and help files and do not see any way to accomplish this. Further, I have been told that AOL claims that sessions can only be saved manually, one at a time.
The saved sessions are located at Documents and Settings\user_name\My Documents\AIM Logs\AIM_screen_name. Within this directory are directories for every contact and a file for each day there was a session. The file name is in this format: 2003-06-26 [Thursday].htm. The owner of the computer claims that he never saved anything and did not know this logging was occurring. Does anyone know how these session transcripts were created?
Thanks,
Jack Crone
I just answered my own question. Here's the results in case anyone else needs to know. DeadAIM, an AIM addon, did the logging. Other AIM enhancements which will automate logging are AIM+ and MyIM.

Hi Jack,
Welcome to Forensic Focus and thanks for your posts. I wish they were all that straightforward!
Kind regards,

other IM clients such as trillian will log conversations too.
