does the pfc hold deleted emails in the pfc or does it push it off to an un-used cluster on the hard disk. I have a client that needs to recover deleted emails from his laptop.I know on outlook the emails are easy to recover with some open source recovery tools
is there any tools for aol?
I only have the laptop available for 3 hours ,what is the best way to get an exact image of the drive to be able to pull this info later?

oops sorry i mean exact copy of the pfc, is it just one file?
Well i found the file on vista under
C\ProgramData\AOL\C_AOL 9.0\organize\%screenname%
and used bintext to open the file to search for strings
i did find a partial email address but the message doesnt seem to line up with it, like its on another location, anyone now how the structure is laid out

Depends on the version of AOL and the OS. Each time AOL installs it creates a new directory (C\…\AOL 9.0, AOL 9.0 a, AOL 9.0 b…) unless the installing user chooses to overwrite and old installation.
Also, when uninstalled it provides the user the option of saving the PFC files to the desktop folder.
yea they had the pfcs on the desktop too
the strings were in all different areas not in order
