Folks -

Have a apple computer. I know it is at least an OS X.
I'm trying to determine two things

1) The install date of the OS. Is there a specific file that indicates the exact time of the OS install?

2) THe install date of a specific program. Is there a specific file or field that I should be looking at to determine the exact install time?

Thank you very much.

Quick answer - as I don't have my Mac with me today to explore further …

For OS information …

10.2.8 and prior
Look in /Library/Receipts/ for "Mac OS X Update" or "Mac OS X Log"

10.3 and later
Look in /var/log/install.log

For specific applications - I think it depends on how it was installed. If it was done as a UNIX package for example, then the Package Manager would have information on it. Others may have install logs in /var/log or the directory that they install into. Those that use the Apple Installer, I believe will log somewhere in /var/log … Those that you install purely by copying the files, then I guess you are looking at file times for that information ?

Not a huge help - experiment a bit if you can. What is the specific application - maybe there is more info available.

Good Luck.

Some app installs make their own install log. Most printer drivers and Adobe apps also. What app is it?
