Hello everybody,

When a PDF is created from a DOC or DOCX file, does its author field come from the DOC or DOCX file or does it come from Windows?

Thanks!!!

I did a test with word of office 2019, the author is the user of the pc.

In another pc I use pdf creator and I can change the metadata

When creating from MS word, it comes from the name used for registering the Office application. This may coincide with the Windows user account name. As mentioned in the earlier reply, this field can be modified.

Whats happens if I recive a DOCX file created by other person and I create a PDF from this DOCX file? Does ir take the name which is configured in his/her Office or the name configured in mine?

I guess it takes his/her name.

Sorry for the late reply. Metadata can be modified for Word (DOC/ DOCX) files as well as PDF. In Case of Word it can be user account of Windows, PC name or even the name used for registering Microsoft Office application at the time of installation. In case of PDF, it can be any the name of application used for creating or similar to Word files.

Either case, this metadata field per-se is not a reliable source of evidence, it may be used as corroboration along with other forms of physical and digital evidences.
