Hey there for our first year forensics module were going to design a poster on forensics or security and the topic I have decided to choose is cracking WPA using BackTrack4 due to its software such as aircrack pre-installed.
The issue I am having basically is actually installing it, Im using a laptop with a 250gb hard drive and am following the offensive-security guide but there are some differences with the cylinders that I am having difficulties with mainly their defaults differing to mine. As well as the mounting commands not seeming to work even following them to the precise detail and boot nuking the hard drive to ensure there are no hidden partitions prior to install.
So tldr; does anyone have any guides they have used to install this or just a quick pointer on how I am being stupid as I have never installed a linux distro in this way before.
Thanks.
Why are you wanting to install BackTrack, as opposed to just booting off the CD/DVD? Also, diagnosing your problem might be easier if you posted some error messages (like with how you're having trouble with mounting filesystems).
managed to solve the issue I was having so nvm but the reason I am trying to install rather than use it as a live CD is that I am going to be doing a project so the added advantage of saving files etc is quite handy when I don't use the laptop anyway.

@tomhall911 I know im kind of late in the game but I saw your post and am a huge supporter/user of bt4. I hope you got it working the way you needed, but there is an easier way if not. Installing BT4 to persistent USB will do exactly what you are talking about without needing to dedicate 250Gb. I use an 8gb thumb and it flies. Let me know if you are interested in this setup and I would be glad to assist you!
