Due to some office policy, there is a need for me to transport evidence HDD across boundary, through courier ( e.g. fedex, DHL, etc).

any advise for packing the HDD so that when it reach me, I can still image it with no problem? Some of the worries I have are the shock and stistic the HDD may encoutnered during flight.

Use the packaging material from a similar-sized hard drive. Be sure to enclose the drive in an anti-static bag, then place within the drive packaging material (usually includes plastic retainers and cardboard box).

Seal the box with tamper-evident tape and place, along with some additional padding material in the shipping box (FedEx is my carrier-of-choice).

Modern hard drives have self-parking heads and can withstand a drop of a meter or more (never a good idea, but… it happens).

Also, retain an extra copy of the image "just in case."

I keep the boxes that hard drives are originally shipped in for just such purposes. I save a couple 2.5" as well as 3.5" drive packages on hand.

1) You hash the drive
2) I have kept several retail box when I purchased some hard drives for times when I need to deliver a hard drive. They basically have an antistatic bag to put the HD in and plastic holders to insert each end of the HD.
3) Seal the HD box really good and put it in another bigger box with packing foam between each box
4) The recipient hashes the hard drive and compares the 2 hash values to see if there were any changes

We use Pelican cases for such events. Can't recommend them highly enough. Good idea to put a padlock on the case and send the keys separately.

I would also ship it on a NIST approved encrypted drive.

These drives have worked well for me and are FIPS 140-2 validated hardware encrypted-

Outbacker MXP
FIPS 140-2 Level 2 validated version
