Hello,

Just looking for a quick reply…

I'm looking for solutions for BlackBox Forensics, the black box in airplanes and data recording devices in cars/in-dash GPS systems…

Anybody know of a company or solution for these?

Thanks.

Jonathan,

No case to contact them about. I was interested in what was known about Black Box Forensics as of right now… Are there tools/devices that can do it? If so, what make and models… etc. Any whitepapers about them. I have not really found much from Google, that was my reason for posting.

OK, I see. Sorry I can't be more helpful. A fascinating area, that's for sure.

You should take a look at http//www.crashcube.nl/

Martin Coyne who heads up the project is probably one of the most knowledgeable people in the world on the subject.

For actual aircraft recorders (FDR's and CVR's) a good source is the NTSB

Example
http//www.ntsb.gov/Aviation/Manuals/FDR_Handbook.pdf

To get related "google keywords" for further research, these files should gives a lot of of relevant terms/acronyms/interfaces in use

Hey, why don't they make the whole PLANE out of the black box?

Sorry had to do it.

I have only come across one request for this in motor vehicles so far but the client never moved forward. The initial research was to look at the EDRs. There have been cases where they have been used (I don't have the citations off hand) to show someone was moving at a certain velocity during a crash as well as for brake responsiveness. Can be also used with other data points like cell phone dumps to gain further information at time of incident - texting, calls etc.

Check out BOSCH - They have a crash data retrieval unit
