I would like to volunteer my hometown of Las Vegas, we have ample space good airfares and inexpensive hotel accomadations. If there is a consensus to do this I would recommend the spring/fall or even the winter the summers are extreme (but you can stay indoors). If we can get a group of 50 or so together we maybe able to get some breaks on rooms etc.

I am willing to be point if there is interest.

As much as I would love to see 50 of the board people together, with the number of replies thus far there is little chance of us filling up a single hotel room lol.

That's a great idea.
Especially for the newbies in the field. We could discuss with active professionals and exchange opinions.
I am really interested.

We don't have to have 50 or 100 people.

A lot of times at places like the emabasy suites you can get free hosting rooms with 5 people getting rooms there.

What kind of events would we have there? Any ideas for speakers?

At first, why don't we try to meet up at an existing event - just schedule something on our own and meeting that way. Once we get some more participation…then try to do a full blown thing.

That sounds like a good suggestion, just something very informal to put a face to a username. What's the next event people are going to?

While that sounds like a good idea, now you have to find an event that everyone is going to go to, which may be harder than getting everyone together for a seperate meeting.

Well, yes, but there are surely a limited number of events and if a few people are going to the same one then it's a fairly easy thing just to agree to meet up somewhere. I suspect there just aren't enough members here at the moment to make a separate meeting fully viable right now unless people happen to work/live fairly close to each other anyway. Just thinking aloud…

Initially at least, I think meeting up at an existing event is a good idea if there are a few people going to the same one, at the very least this means you can take advantage of the facilities/events already organized. With regards to a specific forum get together, if you factor in the air fare, car hire, accommodation and living costs, it will be an expensive board meeting if only five people turn up.
