Hi all,

Is there a live bootable USB forensics tool available? Something like Helix, but bootable for USB.

The closest I have found is creating a USB Fedora or Backtrack 3. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks – i2.

THE FARMER'S BOOT CD (FBCD) can be put on a USB thumb drive and booted if the system supports booting from USB devices.

Cheers!

Funny thing Harlan, but the first hit Google retieves using the link you provided, is in fact, this post. So now if someone else gets to this page using Google looking for the same thing the OP was, they'll be told to go right back to Google for their answers.

A bit paradoxical, no? 😉

Pick your favourite live distro and use http//unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ to get it onto a USB key.

Has worked well for me so far.

Greetings,

Seconding what mialta said, I travel with a set of USB thumb drives that contain Helix, EnCase, and Backtrack 3. They were all made with unetbootin.

This is really a great idea. As soon as I have some free time I'll try it. Has anyone already got to create a Bootable USB for the latest version of Helix (2.0)?

iruiper,

Yes, it's nice and easy.

* Grab the Helix 2.0 iso.
* Grab uNetbootin (I've only ever tried the Linux version, but there's no reason to think this won't work with the Windows version).
* Format your USB flash drive with a FAT based filesystem.
* Mount your USB flash drive.
* Run uNetbootin.
* Select "Diskimage and ISO" and browse to the Helix iso.
* Select your USB drive at the bottom and click "OK".

And that's it. It takes just a few minutes.

HTH

I have just tried uNetbootin using Windows and it works perfectly. A brilliant little program IMHO.
