I'm not sure that the title is worded correctly, but the problem is this.
Macbook Pro running 10.11.5 (El Capitan) and I have come across an app "Hide Files Pro" which opens a dialog box prompting for a password when you launch it.
I seem to recall about 8 years ago locating a Mac App which would attempt to brute force these types of password prompts but I can't find anything like it anywhere.
There doesn't appear to be any limit to the attempts you can make as I've already run through about 100 using different passwords that I located on iPhones etc that belong to the same user.
Forensic soundness is not an issue at this point as I have full disk images and the client has no issues with my installing software if I need to crack this thing.
Anyone know of software for Mac that can do this?
We built a programmable bruteforce device which works generally on everything with a USB input interface. We opened an iMac login screen with dictionary attack less then 2 weeks ago, I'm pretty sure that it would work on your task as well. The problem is that we got this inlab in Budapest, Hungary, and it is not an open source project which I could share.
Fell free to contact me in PM if you wish, I don't want to flood this forum thread with details.
Have you considered something like the USB rubber ducky?
Also have you gone through the various keys etc. in the plists and so on to see if there is a hash (perhaps stored in base64) that could be cracked in a more logical way. I will download it and have a play today.
Do you have the app store link or an exact website url please
