Topic starter

I am studying for a BSc in Forensic computing and am now starting my final year. I have to complete a project that contains both a dissertation and some coding. I was hoping to base my project around the actual presentation of any digital evidence to aid the understanding of a non technical audience. The dissertation seems acheivable however I am struggling to actually come up with a viable program idea. Has anyone got any ideas that may be able to help.

Many Thanks (in advance).

A very hard task indeed.
As you suggest the dissertation section seems acheivable however the programming area less so. Are you sure of this? From experience the opposite is more likely. I would decide on a 50/50 split between the two.

The iPhone is capable of taking photographs, it seems that these photographs contain EXIF information, nowt unusual about that, however it seems that the EXIF information contained within these photographs also contains data about the location where the photograph was taken. Is this true? Is this an area that may be of interest?

Best of luck!

A topic that could include aspects of both could be made around the U3 technology popular in thumb drives. While the dissertation could discuss many aspects of it, and it's protection scheme, the programming side could focus on either password cracking the password protection (maybe a john the ripper extension) and or a forensically sound image after the password were cracked. Some variation of this theme.
