Hi,

I was using an app which can accept credit card payments just like a POS or payment gateway on my Samsung Galaxy Note 5. I used the app during the initial stages of my freelance works. Now, I stopped that service since I got a regular job.

I am planning to buy a new phone, maybe google nexus or an iphone is possible. So, I will sell my old note 5. One of my friends is willing to buy it.

Now my question is would it be possible to retrieve the data from the smartphone? I deleted the app and the service. I don't want the sensitive data to be cracked by anyone else. This friend is good at electronics and computers.

For reference, the app is a product from the merchant service http//www.versapay.com/merchant-services/mobile-payment-app/

What do you think I should do?

Thanks for your time.

I am not sure of the correct answer to your problem. Most phones are difficult to recover deleted data from, so you are likely to be safe.

One approach I would try, before you sell it is to fill the memory totally. Take a video of your garden (or similar) till the memory is full. This should overwrite any previously deleted data.

If the phone has a plug in memory chip, retain this for yourself.

Simply factory reset the phone.
Be warned that you will need the original Google account credentials on newish Samsung phones (including I believe yours) to be able to do that.

Set up your new Samsung device first and do the factory reset on the old device only AFTER you check that everything is as it should be on the new device!
