Jonathan,
Do you actually use the Disklabs forums? 😉
Lee, the perfect reply to that has got to be "No, because there are too many sub-forums meaning it's underpopulated and not worth it" 😉

I don't think that piling everything into the general forum makes sense but I do think there's some room for consolidation. I'll look into it further when I'm back behind a proper PC/network connection later in the month.
Just a quick follow up to my post from last month. I've now merged a number of forums where it seemed to me sensible to do so (e.g. Methodology -> General, Getting Started -> Employment, etc.) which has brought us from 17 down to 12 forums in total.
I know this is one of those situations where you can't please everyone but I hope it's a step in the right direction for most.
Cheers,
Jamie
Still think live and network forensics should be merged with this one )
With just 4 pages of threads in that forum it is hardly heavy usage and a lot of the content in both forums fall into both camps.
I'm not strongly opposed to that suggestion. What do other people think?
Jamie
I'd be in favour of a merge personally. Whilst I do use the 'posts since last visit' feature, in general on messageboards I tend to just look at or post on the busiest ones, especially if subforums rarely have any new posts. There aren't anywhere near enough posts per hour/day for it to be a chore scan through a page (or two) and click on the topics of relevance, or ignore those not of relevance, and I doubt that would change if this was merged (but might add a few more responses to those topics currently in the split sections).
Just to be clear or to save repeating myself later, i'd be in the camp favouring a few sections, possibly only
General Discussion
Mobile Phone Forensics
Education/Academic Work
Employment Advice
Job Vacancies
Services Needed
Classifieds
(basically rolling up hardware/software - both types/legal/live and network all into general - for the reason above)

Thanks Rich. More thoughts anyone? I'll leave this open for the next 24 hours or so before deciding on any further action.
Jamie
I rarely use the sub-forums directly. I just get the 'posts since last visit' and do not care about what sub they are in.
The only time I do look is when posting a new thread.
I think there should only be one forum category, with one thread topic, containing all the posts so you can easily scroll through all the conversations in one browser page. You will have to hunt and peck through the posts to string them together but I am still an avid Netscape 4.0 user and the newer world wide web technology messes with the browser.
I am totally joking btw - I use the "Show posts since last visit" to view new posts. Works for me on because of my frequency on the site.
