After reading many posts on which certs are good, I've decided on the CCE (I am not Law Enforcement, so can't do IACIS). Before I start, I have some questions for those who have already done it

1. Does anyone know pass/fail rates? Just curious.

2. Are you assigned a mentor or advisor? Or, are you totally on your own?

3. Is the time frame reasonable? If you are like me, you've always got multiple things trying to grab your time and attention.

4. Are the pretest and sample diskette image indicative of the difficulty level?

Thanks in advance.

Forgot one other

Can you take it multiple times? Or make multiple submissions? Or, is it a one time thing?

Sorry there are so many questions…..

cfprof,
Have you looked at the CCE site or emailed John Mellon regarding some of your questions?

My personal experience with the CCE was good.

No idea what the pass/fail rate is. My opinion is when you are taking a proficiency exam you either know the material or you don't, if you don't know the material then you should study, if you do then the test(s) are really a no brainer because you know the techniques required to pass.

The timeframe is very reasonable to complete the exams.

I was assigned a grader, there was no mentor or any other assistance (after all it is an exam and asking for help is well…cheating).

The difficulty varies from media to media.

As far as I know you can re-test but you can only submit your results once per exam.

Hope that helps.

Also, if you happen to not pass the first time, you have to wait 90 days before you can retest.

4. Are the pretest and ….. indicative of the difficulty level?

Yes the pretest questions are similar in nature to the real test.

Thanks to all who responded. Sounds like I should e-mail Mr. Mellon then get to it.

Again, thanks.

2. An assessor grades your work product, but would not provide any assistance beyond grading you.

3. Yes.

4. Similar in style but not in terms of complexity.

5. The test can be taken multiple times, but there are certain restrictions. Check out the ISFCE policies page http//www.isfce.com/policy.htm for more detailed information.

You really shouldn't email John Mellon with questions about CCE. He's a nice guy, and may respond, but he sold ISCFE a while back, so he's no longer the proverbial horse's mouth.

I recently wrote to the ISFCE stuff about the CCE process. They confirmed you get an assessor for the process, and you have 90 days to submit the practical test after taking the written test.
6 months ago I got the CHFI cert, and a main part of my preparation was to study all the ISFCE suggested documents and books. I hope the CCE theory test won't be too different. The practical test makes a difference between both certs. Nevertheless, I am getting prepared for the CCE reading all I can, it seems like a very complete evaluation process,
